Character Costume: Protagonist

The results of our survey easily put across to us that our prospective audience was interested to see the protagonist in grungy clothing. This assisted us greatly whilst trying to choose a style to base the costumes of the main character.

I did some research into what types of clothing are usually considered 'grunge' and the main critera included:

• black/red dominant colouring
• baggy, oversized shirts
• skinny jeans
• big, heavy looking boots/shoes
• plaid
• leather 

This outfit includes, black skinny trousers and a baggy oversized top with a graphic image on, featuring a name of a band and an image.
The dominant colour in the outfit is black which shows that she is a relatively negative character.
The graphic image shows what type of music the character is into.

This outfit features black skinny jeans, a baggy oversized black top with a large graphic image of a red cross, as well as black Doc Marten boots.
The red cross on the shirt makes red a dominant colour in the outfit along with black and connotes danger within the character, and the cross also indicates a creepy, sinister side to the character or narrative.

This outfit includes a red and black plaid shirt with black skinny jeans and black Doc Marten boots. The red and black cross composition in the shirt connotes that there is something not quite right about the character, and potentially would be worn later on in the trailer as things begin to go wrong. This makes the dominant colour of the outfit red and so indicates that the character becomes more dangerous as the narrative continues.

 This outfit includes a black top, black skinny jeans and black Doc Marten boots. As well as this, however, there is a waistcoat which hints at a more arty side to the character. The viewer can see that the character is wearing an abundance of bracelets, which makes her appearance more chunky and heavy.

 During the trailer, to match which the grunge theme, dark make up should probably be worn. This will suit the rest of the appearance of the character, connoting darkness within her personality and showing what type of person she is.





Accessories such as glasses should be worn to hint at an intelligent side to the character, and make it seem as though she is introverted and hides behind them. As well as this, a beanie will make her seem as though she does not care excessively about her appearance as she does not take the time to do her hair.
