Website Deconstruction

Brutal Justice: http://brutaljustice.wix.com/brutal-justice#!

  • This website is suitable for the genre because it becomes clear immediately it is in the horror genre. This is made clear by the background - an image of a woods in grey and white, looking very isolated and appears scary. The tagline also fits into the horror genre, "Some kidnap to protect... They kidnapped for revenge" as it suggests there is a victim and a threat, possibly a human or creature, until you watch the trailer it is unclear.
  • It is suitable for the target audience because it features scary content and doesn't make it too childish by including games for example, as some animated children's films may do.
  • The choice of image works well, it is effective as it helps make the genre of the film trailer clear to the audience and draws them in. It also immediately makes it clear that some of the events of the film occur in a wooded area, which can be seen when watching the trailer on the home page. The image gives a professional impression to the audience as it is very eerie and has obviously been edited to achieve the old appearance and misty look. It is appropriate as it doesn't give too much away and isn't distracting from the other content on the website.
  • The teaser trailer is embedded well and starts as soon as the webpage loads, however, unless you make it full screen the trailer plays in a very small box which could make it hard to see some of the details of the trailer.
  • The title of the film is very clear, in capitals at the top of the screen at all times. They have also used a nice transition when the webpage first loads to make it come down from the top, adding to the professionalism.
  • The size of the font is very big, which does make it clear however I feel it makes it appear slightly less professional. In addition to this, the text in the 'About' section is black, which makes it slightly hard to read in front of the background. However, the red colour used for all the page links is red, which helps connote ideas found in the horror genre, in this case blood, and also stands out against the grey background image. The size of the social network links are also very big which make them look slightly out of place as they do not fit in with the colour scheme. Perhaps by making them slightly smaller or moving them further down the webpage slightly is would have made the website look more professional.
  • There are no critics reviews found on the webpage, which takes away from the professionalism.
  • The social links, despite being very large are all useful and links to the main sites, such as Facebook, YouTube and  Twitter, there is also a downloads page making the website interactive.
  • The overall colour scheme works well, as it helps enforce the horror genre and makes it seem quite creepy. The grey background allows the red text to appear quite bold which encourages the viewer to click around the website and find out more.
  • The site is very user friendly, it is easy to navigate and access all the areas without encountering any problems.
Agent Fifteen: http://adm-oli.wix.com/agentfifteen#!home

  • The website it suitable for the genre as the sound playing as the website opens leads us to believe it is horror, as does the background.
  • suitability for genre
  • suitability for target audience
  • effective/professional/appropriate choice of image
  • teaser trailer embedded and starts automatically?
  • title of film clear and professionally embedded into website
  • suitability of size/font/colour of links
  • use of critics reviews
  • inclusion of social networking/interactive opportunities
  • overall colour scheme
  • user-friendly
Twisted Truth: http://a2mediawok.wix.com/media-website#!

  • This is suitable because the red colour scheme and hand print make it clear it is the horror genre to the viewer, and gives it a professional feel.
  • suitability for genre
  • suitability for target audience
  • effective/professional/appropriate choice of image
  • teaser trailer embedded and starts automatically?
  • title of film clear and professionally embedded into website
  • suitability of size/font/colour of links
  • use of critics reviews
  • inclusion of social networking/interactive opportunities
  • overall colour scheme
  • user-friendly

Website deconstruction

Website Deconstruction

BittersSweethttp://amyamydaisylibby.wix.com/bittersweet

  • The Bittersweet trailer is clearly a psychological horror - the main antagonist is presented as a young girl and her friends at her birthday celebration. The tagline at the top of the page reads "you're invited to Lucy's bittersweet birthday party" creating an innocent ring to it but through the use of the typography and the black background we can understand that there is a deeper meaning behind the tagline suggesting some sort of disequilibrium within the plot of the film as does the oxymoron within the tagline. The use of a young antagonist is becoming a convention within psychological horrors therefore making it quite suitable for the genre.
  • The target audience may aim from 16+, the website doesn't hold any gruesome pictures or scenes from the film where as the trailer does. Making it suitable for a target audience, it also provides links to social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter,YouTube, Pinterest and Google + allowing their target audience to share and promote their trailer - this is also a good use of convergence.
  • Their choice of image is the main antagonist holding her birthday cake - the use of lighting to only highlight her inner face adds dynamic to her character allowing the audience to know that her character is not as innocent as she seems. The lighting predominantly falls on her inner face so her outer face and shoulders blend into the black background of the website thus making it look extremely professional and aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
  • The embedded trailer does not start automatically when you enter the site, however this can be a good thing for those who require the site for other needs such as information about the cast.
  • The title of the film "Bittersweet" is clearly embedded into the website within the tagline making it professional and creative in the sense that it doesn't follow the usual title and tagline placement.
  • The sizing may be a bit small in terms of the font size on the navigation bar although they are still able to be read. The choice of white is good as it doesn't clash with the other colours present on the website and it also stands out. The font could have been bolder making it easier not to dismiss. The typography does not remain the same for the title, menu and reviews but this distinguishes them from each other and presents them clearly.
  • The use of critics reviews on the right hand side of the site are useful. They have all described the film in different ways such as "beautifully disgusting" and just a 5 star rating creating rave before the films release.
  • There are links to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest and Google + allowing the audience to share and promote the trailer prior to release and this is a good use of convergence.
  • The overall colour scheme is black, white and pink. Shying away from the conventional black, white and red. The
  • The site is also user friendly as no scrolling is needed for any pages, allowing links to information about the movie as accessible as possible.

Alternethttp://mediainternet3.wix.com/alternetmovie

  • The Alternet trailer focuses on the use of social networking, paying close attention to Facebook and the dangers and disguises that some people use it as. Due to its focus on social networking it has a clear target audience and this is presented clearly through the website graphics and the trailer itself. There is no graphic images used throughout the trailer and nor are any on the website. It is clear within its genre and it's point what it's trying to portray making it suitable for its genre.
  • The use of strong language used in the trailer aims it at an audience of 15+ , there is no use of any gruesome images or clips within the trailer.Making it suitable for a target audience, it also provides links to social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter,YouTube, Blogger and Tumblr allowing their target audience to share and promote their trailer - this is also a good use of convergence.
  • Their choice of image is the main antagonist looking directly to the audience. The use of lighting, highlights the whole of his face and eyes, whereas anything further down such as is shoulders are blended into the black background of the website. The lighting and quality of the picture is good therefore making it look professional and the dominant of the site: the first thing your eyes go to.
  • The embedded trailer does start automatically when you enter the site. This is easy as it doesn't require you to look around the site to find it making it easy and accessible as well as user friendly
  • The title of the film "alternet" is clearly embedded into the website using the Facebook search bar menu as its format. It appears to be a little too small but it looks realistic in the context that it's supposed to fit into the Facebook bar making it look professional and creative in the sense that it doesn't follow the usual title and tagline placement. The tagline is placed in the search bar reading "become your fantasy" with a friend request on the left hand side of it - basically summing up the film from the use of the title and tagline and how they are presented.
  • The sizing of the menu is good and clear. It's also in blue therefore making it stand out from the rest of the site and does not clash with the theme of it.
  • The use of critics reviews on underneath the trailer is good - it includes the star ratings and quotes such as "brilliant and profound". The placement of it also gives you no option but to read it as it's directly underneath the trailer however you would need to scroll to get to it - therefore not making it very user friendly.
  • There are links to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Blogger and Tumblr allowing the audience to share and promote the trailer prior to release and this is a good use of convergence.
  • The overall colour scheme is black, white and blue. Following the colours of Facebook which is what their film idea is based upon.
  • The site is also not as user friendly as a scroll is required therefore some information about the film may be cut off or not read.

Vendetta: http://vendettamovie.wix.com/mediagroup5

  • The Vendetta trailer is clearly a supernatural horror - the main antagonist is presented as a young girl. (ghost) looking for revenge. There is no tagline on the website on behalf of the film but the dominant which is the antagonist is the center of the menu and appears on screen as a ghost/holographic character, making it suitable for its genre.
  • The target audience may aim from 15+, the website doesn't hold any gruesome pictures or scenes from the film where as the trailer does have some scenes that viewers may find disturbing. Making it suitable for a target audience, it also provides links to social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter,YouTube, Blogger and Flickr allowing their target audience to share and promote their trailer - this is also a good use of convergence.
  • Their choice of image is the main protagonist in her night gown positioned in the middle of the menu - the use of lighting exposes everything making her look pale and highlighting the dirt on her face and gown as if she found her way out of her own grave.
  • The embedded trailer does start automatically when you enter the site, however this can be a good thing for those who require the site for other needs such as information about the cast.
  • The title of the film "Vendetta" is clearly embedded into the website at the top but centred in a red, teared like typography. Linking into the well known scene of the protagonist being dragged by the antagonist.
  • The sizing of the font is reasonable as it is clear and easy to read. The choice of white with a red outline keeps within the colour scheme of black, red and white. It also glows in red once you hover over a link in the menu alerting users of what they're about to click on as well as tying it in with the supernatural genre.
  • There are no use of critics reviews, making the website look rather unreliable as a source of information about the film.
  • There are links to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Blogger and Flickr allowing the audience to share and promote the trailer prior to release and this is a good use of convergence.
  • The overall colour scheme is black, red and white, in keeping the traditional horror movie colours. Too it's user friendly as no scrolling is required to see the all the information on pages and the soundtrack used within the trailer plays as you navigate yourself around the website.

Website Deconstruction -Natasha

Klinger

http://pierj017303.wix.com/klinger

  • The website clearly depicts a horror genre as the main image shows a large, intimidating building in low-key lighting which has been made to look fairly creepy. The title of the film also makes the website suitable for the horror film as it is bold and looks as if it is decaying or rusting over time which has a sinister feel. However, the website isn't obviously from the horror genre at first glance as the colour scheme used isn't traditional yet this gives it more of a unique edge.
  • The website definitely attracts those from a 15+ age group as the dark colours used shows that the film would be inappropriate for young children.
  • The choice of image is effective as it makes the building look scary from a low angle and has been edited to look dark and shadowy. The image looks extremely professional as it features a time lapse which gives the website a sophisticated air.
  • The teaser trailer is successfully embedded and starts as soon as the website is opened which is an effective method of drawing viewers to the trailer. It is aligned with the title of the film and is one of the first things that the eyes are drawn to.
  • The font of the title is original and doesn't look plain. It gives the website more of a scary feel and also the colour of the title compliments the background image well which gives the whole website a professional edge.
  • The font of the links is bold and clear and aligned underneath the title which makes it easy to see. It is also helpful that the colour of the links is white as this stands out from the background. The links being named 'News clippings' and 'Evidence' gives the impression that the film is based on true events and therefore the website has a more creepy and chilling feel to it.
  • The critics reviews are positioned well on the website as the eyes are drawn to them immediately after the title and trailer. They aren't too long and therefore are punchy and effective. The five stars which are bold and easy to see against the background make the website seem even more professional.
  • It also includes links to facebook, twitter, tumblr and bebo which is an effective use of convergence, especially for the technological adept generation or teenagers which the film seems to be aimed towards.
  • The colour scheme is effective as it uses the gold/brown colour of rust which is becoming increasingly popular in horror films due to its connotations associated with rust and decay (derelict warehouses etc). It stands out against the blue/grey of the background, another modern horror colour used as it reminds the user of clinical murder. By avoiding the usage of traditional overused colours of black, red and white the website stands out and is memorable.
  • The website is friendly for users overall as all the links are easy to see and use and the trailer starts without trouble. It is unnecessary to scroll a lot and therefore no important information is covered up. The release date is large and easy to see.

 Ultinoem

http://oconc025303.wix.com/ultionem

  • The website is clearly suitable for the horror genre as it uses the traditional colour scheme associated with horror of black, white and red. The main image of the website shows a gruesome and especially sinister looking eye with dripping blood. This will automatically make the user aware that the film is horror and potentially quite gruesome.
  • The website is definitely aimed at a 16+ audience as the gory image will be considered inappropriate for younger children, however older teens will find the image intriguing and will be interested to watch the film.
  • The image is quite effective as it obviously is rather gruesome and makes the user question the plot of the film and at first glance is startling and graphic, however it looks slightly unprofessional as the blood in the image looks unrealistic with further investigation.
  • The teaser trailer is successfully embedded and starts as soon as the website is opened which is an effective method of drawing viewers to the trailer. It is aligned with the title of the film and is one of the first things that the eyes are drawn to.
  • The title of the film is clear as it is the largest part of the website and also acts as a contrasting foil to the background. The font is interesting and looks like witchlike or demonic symbols which determines the genre of the film. It compliments the rest of the website well.
  • The links are easy to find and use. They are white but turn to red when the use hovers over them which makes it seem professional. The font is bold and compliments the font of the title. It is aligned well with the title. However, the tagline looks less effective as it is not well aligned with the title and looks slightly randomly positioned on the page. As well as this, the font of the tagline matches neither the title or the links so it looks quite mismatched.
  • The critics reviews are effectively aligned with the trailer and are easy to see. They are not too large and do not distract from the rest of the website.
  • It also includes links to facebook, twitter, tumblr and bebo which is an effective use of convergence, especially for the technological adept generation or teenagers which the film seems to be aimed towards.
  • The colour scheme uses the traditional horror scheme of black, white and red which is effective but doesn't make it very memorable.
  • The website is friendly for users overall as all the links are easy to see and use and the trailer starts without trouble. It is unnecessary to scroll a lot and therefore no important information is covered up. The release date is large and easy to see.

Akeldama

http://farahdanibethsummer.wix.com/akeldama-film

  • The website is suitable for an action thriller film as the moving images make it seem fast paced and edgy which links in well with the trailer. The colours of red and yellow which are used also suit the genre well as they remind the user of danger and warning.
  • The website is obviously intended for an older audience, probably late teens and older. The majority of the pictures used feature either guns or combat wounds and therefore it would be probably aimed at a male audience. It is obviously inappropriate for very young eyes.
  • The main images of the website is the best part in my eyes as they have been edited to look dramatic and almost as if taken during action. By constantly changing the image the user gets a feel for all the characters involved and it makes it edgy and professional.
  • The teaser trailer is successfully embedded and starts as soon as the website is opened which is an effective method of drawing viewers to the trailer. It is aligned with the title of the film and is one of the first things that the eyes are drawn to.
  • The size of the title is big enough to see yet it is smaller than the trailer and this makes it lose some of its impact. It is light in colour which in contrast to the also light background makes it slightly washed out. It is also not completely aligned with the trailer which makes it less professional yet the font is effective as it reminds the audience of battle.
  • The fonts are hard to find as they are not featured on the main image which meant that I had to scroll down to find them and I did not initially know they they were there. The font is bold and easy to read but the words 'In cinemas everywhere' covers up one of the links so it is impossible to read and use it.
  • The critics reviews are effective as they are in bright colours yet they are a bit hard to see against some of the background due to the main image being a gold colour in some photos. They seem a little too small as well which makes them stand out less.
  • It also includes links to facebook, twitter, tumblr and bebo which is an effective use of convergence, especially for the technological adept generation or teenagers which the film seems to be aimed towards.
  • The overall colour scheme seems to be quite large and varying but it is mainly made up of silvers and reds which is effective for the action-packed and edgy thriller genre.
  • The website is not as user friendly as the others as the links were hard to find to begin with and some of the text is hard to read.

Trailer website deconstruction

The Resolution

- Before you enter the site there are extracts from the trailer and related extra footage, there is then a button at the top right of the screen which allows you to enter the site.
- The trailer begins to play automatically, is embedded and is the first thing you see when you go on the site.
- Title of the movie up at the top, its the second you see as it is in block capitals. All of the text on this page is of the same typography and is all in white, it also has the same block black background. This is professional as the text is consistent and simple, it's location on the screen is eye catching.
- Second biggest thing is the release date which is aligned with the trailer and which stands out a lot.
- There is the tagline of the movie written in between the title and the release date, which was said in the trailer and so it starts to stick in people's mind.
- There is then three buttons: Home, Join us and Merchandise, apart from the Home button (as we are already on the home screen) all these buttons work. The facebook, youtube, twitter and blogger buttons are all functioning and all lead to real 'The Resolution' sites that were made especially. These social networking sites are suitable as they relate to young adults who use technology and websites to socialise. The logos are also very simple and professional and look better than text, it also takes up less space and is in alignment with the words.
-It is also very interactive as it has big words stating 'Join Us' and it is encouraging people to connect with them by having all the social networking sites up and simply laid out.
- The background of the site is a flickering screen which suits the genre as it seems to be a creepy, ritual film linking in with social networking and technology.
-There is also a static noise in the background which also suits the movie, therefore I do feel that this site is suitable for it's genre. This is also a rather professional as it doesn't look tacky as is rather effective considering there were limits on what could be done.
- There are no critics reviews which I think is a shame as this would have added credibility to the website especially as a lot of effort was put into ensuring the links went to actual sites dedicated to the film.
-The overall colour scheme all matches and is not too extravagant, it also suits the trailer as that was mainly white.
- It is also very user friendly, everything is simply laid out, there is no need to scroll or search for anything, nearly everything you would need is up on the website.

- As you enter the site the trailer begins to play automatically, it is embedded into the website and works well.
- The title of the movie stands out from the rest and is well centred in the website, the red of the title links to the red of the release date which might not have been placed in the best of places as I didn't see it until I looked so it didn't jump out at me.
- The title is well placed and much bigger than the rest of the text which is think was a good choice.
- The white of the 'Book Now' is particularly effective as the main reason for a trailer website is to advertise in order to get money therefore this gets straight to the point and allows people to book off the website.
- All the text is in the same typography and the colour scheme used is effective as it is the traditional colours of horror: red, white and black. (this is suitable for the genre as it is horror)
- The tagline of the movie is below the title and although its small it is effective due to the choice of words. The rest of the links are well laid out and are well aligned. All links are functioning.
-  The background is suitable as it has been put in black and white which firstly matches the colour scheme and secondly it is a rather creepy image. It is also the location of the trailer therefore it is a suitable image. It is also rather professional and very simple as it gets across the point without too much flamboyance.
- As there is nothing which isn't matching the atmosphere it's giving off the site is suitable for the target audience who are clearly those who enjoy horror films.
- Unfortunately there are no critics reviews on this site.
- Social networking has been involved and is below the trailer.
- This site is rather user-friendly as there is no need to scroll and everything you need to access is there.

- The trailer starts automatically and is embedded into the website. This gives it a sense of professionalism as it requires the viewer to do less things and it immediately takes the viewers attention as soon as they enter the page.
- The title stands out first as it is the biggest thing on the screen and the text is white which makes it stand out from the background. It's placement is at the top left hand corner which I think is rather professional as it is at the start of the website and the eye travels down the website after reading the title.
- Not all the text is the same typography, however the other typography used isn't extravagant and is rather simple therefore it doesn't look too ridiculous.
- The image is effective and is fitting for the genre and movie as it is red which gives connotations of death and danger. The tattoo seems suitable as the font gives an idea of tribal life. There are many links and options and it is very inclusive of all.
- It also seem all inclusive as it has the ability to translate the website, however these links do not work therefore it is more a decorative piece as there is no use for it.
- It allows you to listen to the soundtrack, it has a photo gallery and so on. It is also well connected with many social networking sites underneath the trailer and therefore is encouraging contact and is interacting with fans.
- There are critic reviews on the site which completes the site as it makes is believable.
- The release date is also present.
- There is use of convergence as it links to amazon and iTunes.
- The site is user friendly, there is no need to scroll down and everything is clear and simple.
- Most of the links are working however the social networking links except twitter and facebook aren't working therefore more attention should have been put in to ensure all the links were working even if they went to a blank page.
