Website Deconstruction -Natasha

Klinger

http://pierj017303.wix.com/klinger

  • The website clearly depicts a horror genre as the main image shows a large, intimidating building in low-key lighting which has been made to look fairly creepy. The title of the film also makes the website suitable for the horror film as it is bold and looks as if it is decaying or rusting over time which has a sinister feel. However, the website isn't obviously from the horror genre at first glance as the colour scheme used isn't traditional yet this gives it more of a unique edge.
  • The website definitely attracts those from a 15+ age group as the dark colours used shows that the film would be inappropriate for young children.
  • The choice of image is effective as it makes the building look scary from a low angle and has been edited to look dark and shadowy. The image looks extremely professional as it features a time lapse which gives the website a sophisticated air.
  • The teaser trailer is successfully embedded and starts as soon as the website is opened which is an effective method of drawing viewers to the trailer. It is aligned with the title of the film and is one of the first things that the eyes are drawn to.
  • The font of the title is original and doesn't look plain. It gives the website more of a scary feel and also the colour of the title compliments the background image well which gives the whole website a professional edge.
  • The font of the links is bold and clear and aligned underneath the title which makes it easy to see. It is also helpful that the colour of the links is white as this stands out from the background. The links being named 'News clippings' and 'Evidence' gives the impression that the film is based on true events and therefore the website has a more creepy and chilling feel to it.
  • The critics reviews are positioned well on the website as the eyes are drawn to them immediately after the title and trailer. They aren't too long and therefore are punchy and effective. The five stars which are bold and easy to see against the background make the website seem even more professional.
  • It also includes links to facebook, twitter, tumblr and bebo which is an effective use of convergence, especially for the technological adept generation or teenagers which the film seems to be aimed towards.
  • The colour scheme is effective as it uses the gold/brown colour of rust which is becoming increasingly popular in horror films due to its connotations associated with rust and decay (derelict warehouses etc). It stands out against the blue/grey of the background, another modern horror colour used as it reminds the user of clinical murder. By avoiding the usage of traditional overused colours of black, red and white the website stands out and is memorable.
  • The website is friendly for users overall as all the links are easy to see and use and the trailer starts without trouble. It is unnecessary to scroll a lot and therefore no important information is covered up. The release date is large and easy to see.

  • The website is clearly suitable for the horror genre as it uses the traditional colour scheme associated with horror of black, white and red. The main image of the website shows a gruesome and especially sinister looking eye with dripping blood. This will automatically make the user aware that the film is horror and potentially quite gruesome.
  • The website is definitely aimed at a 16+ audience as the gory image will be considered inappropriate for younger children, however older teens will find the image intriguing and will be interested to watch the film.
  • The image is quite effective as it obviously is rather gruesome and makes the user question the plot of the film and at first glance is startling and graphic, however it looks slightly unprofessional as the blood in the image looks unrealistic with further investigation.
  • The teaser trailer is successfully embedded and starts as soon as the website is opened which is an effective method of drawing viewers to the trailer. It is aligned with the title of the film and is one of the first things that the eyes are drawn to.
  • The title of the film is clear as it is the largest part of the website and also acts as a contrasting foil to the background. The font is interesting and looks like witchlike or demonic symbols which determines the genre of the film. It compliments the rest of the website well.
  • The links are easy to find and use. They are white but turn to red when the use hovers over them which makes it seem professional. The font is bold and compliments the font of the title. It is aligned well with the title. However, the tagline looks less effective as it is not well aligned with the title and looks slightly randomly positioned on the page. As well as this, the font of the tagline matches neither the title or the links so it looks quite mismatched.
  • The critics reviews are effectively aligned with the trailer and are easy to see. They are not too large and do not distract from the rest of the website.
  • It also includes links to facebook, twitter, tumblr and bebo which is an effective use of convergence, especially for the technological adept generation or teenagers which the film seems to be aimed towards.
  • The colour scheme uses the traditional horror scheme of black, white and red which is effective but doesn't make it very memorable.
  • The website is friendly for users overall as all the links are easy to see and use and the trailer starts without trouble. It is unnecessary to scroll a lot and therefore no important information is covered up. The release date is large and easy to see.

Akeldama

  • The website is suitable for an action thriller film as the moving images make it seem fast paced and edgy which links in well with the trailer. The colours of red and yellow which are used also suit the genre well as they remind the user of danger and warning.
  • The website is obviously intended for an older audience, probably late teens and older. The majority of the pictures used feature either guns or combat wounds and therefore it would be probably aimed at a male audience. It is obviously inappropriate for very young eyes.
  • The main images of the website is the best part in my eyes as they have been edited to look dramatic and almost as if taken during action. By constantly changing the image the user gets a feel for all the characters involved and it makes it edgy and professional.
  • The teaser trailer is successfully embedded and starts as soon as the website is opened which is an effective method of drawing viewers to the trailer. It is aligned with the title of the film and is one of the first things that the eyes are drawn to.
  • The size of the title is big enough to see yet it is smaller than the trailer and this makes it lose some of its impact. It is light in colour which in contrast to the also light background makes it slightly washed out. It is also not completely aligned with the trailer which makes it less professional yet the font is effective as it reminds the audience of battle.
  • The fonts are hard to find as they are not featured on the main image which meant that I had to scroll down to find them and I did not initially know they they were there. The font is bold and easy to read but the words 'In cinemas everywhere' covers up one of the links so it is impossible to read and use it.
  • The critics reviews are effective as they are in bright colours yet they are a bit hard to see against some of the background due to the main image being a gold colour in some photos. They seem a little too small as well which makes them stand out less.
  • It also includes links to facebook, twitter, tumblr and bebo which is an effective use of convergence, especially for the technological adept generation or teenagers which the film seems to be aimed towards.
  • The overall colour scheme seems to be quite large and varying but it is mainly made up of silvers and reds which is effective for the action-packed and edgy thriller genre.
  • The website is not as user friendly as the others as the links were hard to find to begin with and some of the text is hard to read.
