Before:
Before we could film officially in the attic, we had to make sure that the location matched the kind of atmosphere we were trying to convey. I scoped out the area and decided what parts I wasn't happy with and wanted to change. This included the clutter around the area that we wanted to film in as obviously it did not suit the situation and if included in the shot would be very anti-climactic.
We knew that in the last shot a wide area of the room would be visible and had to make sure that every little part in the room was just right. As well as this, we wanted to add an extra creepy effect to the location, as we didn't want it to come across as just a plain loft, as this takes away from the scary effect.
After:
Clutter:We cleaned out the area so that the boxes, the big black bucket and other items were not in the way. This would most likely be the area that the dead bodies would be lying and so it was important to make it clear. We simply moved them to a non-visible part of the loft so that it would not affect the shots.
Blood Spatters:
Using a tube of fake blood, we splattered some of it over the main wall, behind where the victim will be in the scene. This was to give a more chilling effect to the shots as it would indicate that in the murders of the characters, there was some element of torture or struggle, which makes it more creepy and scary which suits our horror genre.
The chair:
The main issue of mise en scene that we are facing at this point is that of the chair- the only chair that we have available for the victim to sit on is a dining room chair, which does not suit the creepy, ragged effect that we are going for in the location. What we would like to use is a brown, rough wooden chair which we could potentially borrow from school and use for the time being.
