Layering Sounds

Layering Sounds

After looking for a good non diegetic track to play continuously throughout our trailer, we realised that the best outcome would be to layer sounds that we found and thought would fit best with our trailer but were to scarce alone. By layering the sounds together we were aiming to produce a fuller and more suspense building sound. When looking for sounds we thought an ambient horror sound would be good, as it captures the unexpected events that the protagonist encounters, and it would also add a scare factor. Additionally, a whisper sound effect would be good to highlight the struggle of schizophrenia that the protagonist has to go through.

However, when it came to just layering those two sounds together it still produced a rather "empty" sound and didn't match our expectation. Therefore, by adding another layer we would be able to overcome this problem. One thing that we were unsure about was whether a third layer of sound would suit the first two, therefore trying to avoid any extreme harsh discordance or chromaticism making it hard to listen to.
The use of experimental music plays a large part in many films that fall into the psychological genre, therefore by using an experimental track this added our third and final layer. To layer the 3 tracks together we used Logic Pro and imported the tracks individually, scaled them to size to make sure that they fit and sounded together in a way that sounded correct and easy to the ear. We then bounced the file, and uploaded it to YouTube, as shown below:
